Gulab in Urdu means rose. Like the southasian women, the rose is both bold and beautiful. My goal was to create a world where these women could blossom in all their natural glory. Gulabistan is an ongoing project that i’ve been working on for the past year and a half. I’ve always been deeply inspired by the history and tradition inherent in SouthAsian culture. From its music and food, to the fashion and textile industries, the beauty and vibrancy of the people always manages to leave an impression. I wanted to try and step away from the traditional caricatures that are commonplace in the design industry today, and explore the different facets of Southasian women and the beauty and colour in which they adorn themselves in.
